Shanghai Government Officials in security and emergency procedures.

EDITORIAL FROM SECURITY OZ MAGAZINE 

International Security Training Academy, being at the front line of security training, has crossed the Pacific Ocean to create a strong alliance with the Shanghai City Government.

In September 1999, I.S.T.A took up the challenge to train 20 Shanghai Government Officials in security and emergency procedures in the event of a natural disaster.

The Shanghai Government Officials believe that I.S.T.A is advanced in their training techniques and were intrigued by the approach that I.S.T.A used in relation to the security Industry in Victoria and its relationship towards the Victorian Police.

A particular focus of the training days was the appreciation the Shanghai Government Officials expressed. This being, the natural harmony and balance that the security industry shared with the Victorian Police and how they work well together in all areas of the security industry.

The duration of the training was 10 days and in that time Tim Sell (Managing Director of I.S.T.A) and Anthony B. Ralph took the Government Officials to numerous facilities, in and around Melbourne. These included the Police Academy in Glen Waverly, Crown Casino, Private Agent Registry, Craigieburn Mint, Melbourne Airport, Fire Service College, South Eastern Training Ground, Chubb Security and the Rialto Towers. In visiting these premises the Shanghai Government Officials were able to understand how the industry worked and were quite amazed at how the private security sector were replacing what was traditionally seen as a policing role.

With much discussion between the security sectors and the Victorian Police  the Shanghai Officials were able to come to the conclusion, that not only were there changing roles between security and the Victorian Police, but the change is working effectively. Given this, they appreciate why there is the need for the security training to be at a very high industry level.

One of the many outcomes of the training was the Shanghai Government inviting International Security Training Academy to help build a special training facility in Shanghai and to help implement training strategies to create a training academy similar to the standards in which International Security Training Academy work by.

Since having the honour of training the Shanghai Government Officials, not only has it put I.S.T.A on a different playing level but also reinforces what I.S.T.A is trying to achieve in the security industry , that is, offering the highest possible standard of security training so we are able to compete with the rest of the world.
